Close-up Film Festival to screen ‘Are You Volleyball?!’

The 2022 Close-up Film Festival in Canada is to host Iranian short film ‘Are You Volleyball?!’.

Iranian short film ‘Are You Volleyball?!’ has been selected to go on screen at the 2022 edition of the Close-up Film Festival in Canada.

A collection of the best Iranian short films are scheduled to be premiered at the festival with the collaboration of Coquitlam Public Library, City Centre Branch in Vancouver.

The screenings will be held on March 12 when Iranians are getting ready to celebrate New Year.

Directed by Mohammad Bakhshi, the film narrates the story of a group of Arabic-speaking asylum seekers who try to make their way to the border in an English-speaking country.

They get into a conflict with border guards every day up until a deaf-mute child becomes a catalyst for better communication between the two sides.

The 15-minute film has so far won several awards: Best Film Prize from the Al-Nahj Film Festival in Iraq, Best Film and Best Screenplay awards at the Short Film Competition section at the US Forum on Law, Culture & Society, Best Film at the BCN Sports Film Festival in Spain, and Best Editor award at the Bucharest ShortCut Cinefest in Romania.

The Close-up Film Festival includes a Q&A session after screening the films in which filmmakers and audience will discuss their views on films.

It is worth mentioning that the first official international edition of the festival will be held next year.
